Accident Forgiveness

Accident forgiveness is a feature that some insurance companies offer to prevent your policy from being affected by an at-fault accident.  Keep in mind that not every insurer provides this, and there are various underwriting guidelines you must meet for this to be applicable.  A few conditions that may prevent this is if you’ve had multiple auto accidents in the past three years, excessive speeding tickets, or other moving violations on your driving record.

In addition to accident forgiveness, other programs or discounts to be familiar with are:

1) Disappearing deductible program

2) multi-car

3) teenage driver

4) loyalty rewards program

5) military discount

6) completion of an approved defensive driving course

7) safety feature discount

8) multi-policy

9) financial stability

10) good driver

11) good student

12) homeowner

Be sure to ask your agent about all available discounts.

  • STOP.  Do not leave the scene of an accident.
  • Protect the scene.  In other words, turn on flashers, lights, and flares if available.
  • Call the police
  • Make accurate statements to the police officer.  Do not guess/speculate any facts.  For example, if asked if you’re injured and you’re not sure, say that you’re not sure.  In many situations, pain and injuries from accidents become apparent days or even months after the collision.
  • Take pictures of the vehicles and any visible injuries.
